After completing an apprenticeship with the business straight after school in 2011, Carl’s career with us has gone from strength to strength. He has worked hard to become a Client Manager and an invaluable member of the team.

Q: How did you get into the industry?

A: Apprenticeship straight from school. This is my first and only place I have worked.

Q: What does a normal day look like for you?

A: Working on Accounts, Bookkeeping, VAT returns, CIS returns, Tax returns personal or company.

Common misconceptions about your job?

A: That it is only about tax.

Q: What do you do outside of work?

A: I have a season ticket at Liverpool. So most weekends are centred around when the match is on, and going over to town with my dad and a few friends to give or ‘expert’ opinions before kick off. Which inevitably Klopp will choose to ignore, often to great effect.

I am also currently trying to learn the game of golf as a friend of mine thought it would be a good idea to enter us into a tournament for the summer. But having never played a round in my life, I am sure it’s going to be interesting!

Q: Tea or Coffee?

A: I’d choose neither preferably! But tea is the lesser of two evils.

Q: What would your last meal on earth be?

A: Will have to be Chinese, our local restaurant practically have a table reserved for us we are there that often. You know it’s bad when you are on first name terms with the staff.

Q: If you could only watch one movie for the rest of your life, what would it be?

A: Gladiator, easily seen it 20+ times. Can pretty much recite it word for word. I have even been to The Pub in Malta were the actor Oliver Reed had his last session before sadly passing away while filming. You could buy a shirt there with his last nights order on, which was 8 pints of larger, 12 double rums and half a bottle of whiskey. I didn’t want to chance it so I bought a pint of coke.

Q: Interesting fact about yourself / greatest achievement?

A: Probably not so interesting, but unintentionally I remember every country’s flag, which is my one useless Rain man ability. I can also solve a Rubik’s cube, again not so interesting. Greatest achievement, becoming a black belt in Judo.

Q: What do you think will be a big industry trend / change within the next 5 years?

A: Technology is only going to improve, so that the more mundane tasks of data entry will become more automated & a lot more accurate with less chance of human error. This will allow more time to be spent with clients for future planning.
