Landing in the right place at the right time, Andrea was looking for a career change when she found an interest in accounting. She enjoys how varied her role is and helping clients with their specific accountancy needs.

Q: How did you get into the industry?

By accident – I was looking for a change of job and happily this position came along

I work with clients and the team to make sure the work gets done as efficiently as possible.  I also have to deal with HMRC on behalf of our clients.  This can range from chasing up tax refunds for them to following up on payroll and VAT registrations as well as many other things, although unfortunately, a lot of my time is spent on hold to HMRC. My job is varied and interesting.

Q: Common misconceptions about your job?

A: Clients presume I am a qualified accountant!

Q: What do you do outside of work?

A: I enjoy walking, we have a group walk one evening a week and I try to get out most days. I also love Zumba and attend classes. Reading is also high on the list and love a good murder mystery!

Q: Tea or Coffee?

A: Tea, must be black though. I also drink fruit teas

Q: What would your last meal on earth be?

A: Roast chicken with any salads, pastas, rice etc with tasty accompaniments and crispy bread – my favourite type of food

Q: If you could only watch one movie for the rest of your life, what would it be?

A: Not a great film watcher but if I do see one then anything that has music, dancing and a feel-good vibe, Mama Mia springs to mind and I have watched that many times!

Q: Interesting fact about yourself / greatest achievement?

A: I am good at DIY and love using power tools – in fact, I’ve just completed refurbishing my utility room, including the tiling and a fitted unit

Q: What do you think will be a big industry trend/ change within the next 5 years?

A: I believe there will have to be even more automation in accountancy practices and those who are not using cloud systems will have to upgrade. The delay in the introduction of MTD (Making Tax Digital) for sole traders until April 2026, has bought some firms a little time, but it will be here in no time at all.
